KonuŞu: Stateless Persons - World Citizens

According to UNHCR, there are approximately 12 million people around the world who do not officially belong to a state. This means that they do not have access to primary rights states provide, such as healthcare, insurance, and travel rights. One example of a stateless community is Rohingya People, who have been living in Myanmar before the 2016 crisis. After numerous atrocities, Rohingya people have lost their rights to live in Myanmar, which has been their home for decades.
 
The number of stateless persons is bound to increase exponentially in the following decades due to climate crisis, rising polarisation, and natural disasters. In this second English konuşu, Oxfam Country Manager Meryem Aslan and the Founder and Managing Director of the Rohingya Project Mohammad Noor will discuss the future of stateless persons and the rise of global citizenship. Speakers will argue that the purpose of international institutions should not be to find a second home for stateless people but strengthen the concept of global citizenship and explain what it means for the international community.
